The next time you are shopping, take an extra minute to notice who is the Employee of the Month. There is always a picture of somebody posted on the wall in full view of the thousands of shoppers who hurriedly drive the cart past the sometimes awkwardly posed photograph.
Next time, stop and take a good look… examine the face… study the expression… try to affix a personality to the photo… and then, be sure to glance at the name… and most importantly, remember it.
The Employee of the Month may be the person who stocks the shelves in the late night hours, or the person who carefully builds the geometrically challenging cantaloupe pyramids so that our otherwise potentially dreadful and chaotic experience of grocery shopping can be more organized and more efficiently done. Safe to say, it is often a very thankless job. Problem is… all too often; we are the folks who provide the thanklessness.
If you can, find the Employee of the Month while you’re in the store and just say a couple words… “Thank you.” Tell him or her, thanks for doing a good job… no strings attached… no fine print involved… It’s just a nice thing to do. And remember, that no act of kindness ever goes unnoticed. It’s the little things that count.
