St Francis De Sales is quoted as saying… “When you get into the habit of looking for goodness and beauty, you get into the habit of finding it.” I could not agree more. Every day, around every new corner, we have the potential to stop, look and listen to what the world is saying to us. Living life with our eyes open is a recurrent theme to my presentations to groups and associations, where I frequently speak.
Taking the time to recognize that every moment is precious, leads us to realize that some are, indeed, more precious than others. As I exited my doctor’s office yesterday, I took the long way back to my car and walked through the hospital lobby. This all transpired following a glowing report from a follow up visit with my personal physician. I stepped outside and paused long enough to glance at the beautiful blue sky, dotted with puffy fall cumulus clouds and I drank in glory of the moment. It came to me that this was a moment of joy. I recognized that one day all too soon, a doctor’s visit may not be so easy, or a report from a doctor may carry some challenging news… but not today!
Suddenly, one glimpse at the chilling sight of the American flag fully unfurled in a late September breeze against an azure sky… and I knew that there was work to be done and songs to be sung.
