If you’re like me, you are finding yourself running from one meeting to the next. Pretty soon, one conference room starts to look like the other. Then, all of a sudden, one meeting jumps out at you as being memorable, and it does so because it followed a few simple rules.
1 It had a printed agenda for every participant
2 It followed a time schedule that was realistic, allowing enough time for presentations and follow-up discussion.
3 It did not last longer than one hour.
I don’t think that those are unreasonable expectation… just a few simple rules that make everything just a little better. Here’s the game plan:
State an objective for the meeting, give people a purpose for coming, prepare and pre-distribute an agenda, invite the right people who will bring value and insight into the stated objective, watch the clock, don’t let the first point of conversation consume the entire session, let the leader lead, leave some time for a recap to discuss what was accomplished. You will walk out of a well-planned meeting feeling great, whether you planned it, or just participated. Try it… it works
