No matter how rough things get, or how difficult it might be to see the light at the end of the tunnel, there is always something good that happens to each of us every single day. The challenge is to find these things, recognize them and appreciate the significance of what they mean in our daily lives. One way to get into the habit of looking for goodness is to start keeping a daily diary or a log of things that we are thankful for. Do this at the same time every night, just before you turn in under the quilt. Take the time to recognize an act of kindness, a spark of excellence, a sliver of hope that someone extended to you. By doing this, you can start with just one thing… one good thing that happened to you that day. Then, just watch what happens. As you continue to write your evening journal, you’ll start having a tough time deciding which thing is more important than another.
