This is the week to gather the family with one very specific objective… to make memories. It occurred to me a few years ago on a New Year’s Eve that when you choose to live in the moment, (remember one of my previous Messmer-izing Moments, Life is for Living In the Moment?) you had better practice what you preach. Getting the whole crew together is already a challenge for any family, with softball, summer camp, ballet, gymnastics, soccer, etc., etc. it becomes a logistical nightmare of cross referencing everybody’s schedule well in advance and then hoping that a wrench doesn’t get tossed into the works.
Fingers are crossed and the car is loaded with games, goodies and surprises… all props with the intent of making sure that we have built a lasting memory of time together to last far beyond the time when we won’t all be huddled in the same room at the same time. Family is part of the trilogy of the three F’s that direct my life. Those 3 F’s are Faith, Family and Friends, and if you follow the writings and ramblings as a subscriber to the Wayne’s Words newsletter, you’ll notice that constant theme. So bring on the kids and their toothless smiles, the songs we’ll sing, the s’more’s around the campfire and the sleepy eyed little soldiers at the end of a hard day of play. This is the stuff that makes up the fabric of a life well led. Sit back before you put your head on the pillow and realize the true sense of being blessed. Yes, life is good!
